“Die Later” – Dancing for the freedom of Aung San Suu Kyi

Die Later 1 - Bangkok

Today I have to tell a little story of a strange and incredible backpacker.

It was in a small park, close to Koh San Road, back in 2005, I met a backpacker who was over 80 years old. He was dancing with a sign on his back saying “Die Later”. He was dancing for the freedom of Aung San Suu Kyi.

He told me an incredible story about a resent trip to Burma, where he had been protesting in the streets for Aung San Suu Kyi’s release. He was soon arrested, beat up and sent to Thailand. He told me he was going to dance there until she was free. I never came back to Thailand, but I doubt he is still there… but I am sure he his celebrating big today when she is scheduled to be released from house arrest…

It is in Koh San Road you can meet the most incredible people…
